Meghan and I met when working at the same advertising agency, and we were introduced since we both perform standup comedy, at a happy hour neither of us was invited to.
Ever since we've been dating over the past four years, the Sagamore Hotel was a special destination we would gift each other weekend trips. With Meghan's birthday coming up, I thought it'd be the most special place to propose, without her being suspicious.
In preparation, I went and met Matt at Fox Jewelers, who couldn't have been nicer and helped to find the most perfect ring I knew Meghan would love.
After picking up the ring and asking her father for his blessing, everything was in place. On Thursday night, Meghan asked me which day of our stay I'd be wearing my nice clothes. I told her Friday (wink wink). After a day of working out and enjoying the great weather, we returned to our room and got ready for dinner. While Meghan was getting cleaned up, I casually slipped a tripod into my drawstring bag and put the ring in my jeans pocket. The only time Meghan was suspicious happened when she noticed how fast I was walking to the main hotel. Under the guise of taking a photo together at the top of the hotel, on a public patio, we reached the patio where luckily no one else was.
As Meghan was taking in the view of Lake George, I got down on one knee and pulled out the ring saying, "I love you to the Luna (our dog's name) and back, will you marry me?"
She said a million times yes, and to make sure we captured the moment I pulled out the tripod from my bag for photos.
We then went down to the outside patio and got glasses of Prosecco to toast. While sitting out on a covered patio, it then rained for 5 minutes and immediately a rainbow appeared right in front of us. This is especially special since making rainbows with a garden hose was how Meghan's grandfather would cheer up her grandmother when she was feeling down. They were married for 60 years, and we took the rainbow as a sign for our future to come, filled with love from our family.
